24th Annual DI Conference Wrap-Up: A Magical Time!

Approximately 160 DI trauma clients met in Orlando, FL to attend the 24th annual DI Users Conference. The event, which took place October 1-4, 2018, included software training sessions, guest speaker presentations, and opportunities to meet trauma professionals from around the world.

The week’s events opened with pre-conference sessions on October 1 & 2. Again this year, DI partnered with AAAM, STN, and ATS to offer AIS 2015 & Injury Scaling, TOPIC, and the Trauma Registry Course, respectively. The Trauma Program Manager Course from ATS was a new addition to pre-conference this year, and it was a very popular choice! DI offered two courses at pre-conference: a one-day class about using V5 Outcomes with Taxonomy and a two-day DI Report Writer Core Concepts class.

The main conference opened with guest speaker Dr. Ivan Puente from Broward Surgical Associates, Inc. His presentation, Two Shooters, One Trauma Center: How Data Collection & Analysis Helps Improve Patient Care, was moving and informative in practical application of mass casualty policies and procedures.

Throughout the two-day main event, participants attended workshops and lab sessions that focused on using the DI Report Writer to enhance their data validation processes and create a data validation plan. By splitting the attendees into groups, both new and experienced users were able to learn in an environment suited to their current knowledge levels. Training laptops enabled attendees to practice the new skills presented.

The agenda also included a keynote address from Mr. Wesley Boles of Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center. Trauma Innovation & Outside the Box Thinking featured a group activity and a call to think about ways to move trauma programs beyond current restraints to function more efficiently and effectively.

In addition to all of the education at the DI Users Conference, there was also time for networking and relaxing. The 2018 Networking Night was held outside on the hotel’s pavilion and featured the music stylings of one-man band Keith Kobee. The conference wrapped up with a fun game all about data validation.

Thanks to all who attended and made the 2018 DI Users Conference a success!
